Duratec-Swapped Mazda MX-5 Drift Car
Jason Melius from St. Charles, Missouri, transformed his 2006 Mazda MX-5 into a competitive drift car with a 2.5L Duratec engine swap from a 2016 Ford Fusion. The car features a Garrett 2871 Gen 2 turbo, injecting a power boost up to approximately 300-320 horsepower. Essential modifications include a Chrysler Conquest/Mitsubishi Starion TSi intercooler, RX-8 oil cooler, and Mustang GT500 injectors. The build relies on BC Racing Coilovers for suspension and a prototype angle kit from Destroy or Die for enhanced steering. Despite fierce competition at the Ford Festival 2022, this MX-5 held its ground against V8-powered drift machines.
