Golden Sahara: Technological Wonder and American Custom Icon
The Golden Sahara started as a 1953 Lincoln Capri hardtop, transformed by George Barris and Jim Street into a futuristic concept car. Notable for its early ideas on autonomous driving, the car featured four modes of steering, a remote control system, and radar braking through antennae-infused bumpers. Its distinctive design included a bubble-top and illuminated tires, dubbed 'Gold Glass Slippers.' After being lost for decades, the vehicle was fully restored and showcased at the 2019 Geneva Auto Show. Built initially in the 1950s, it remains a standout example of American custom culture.
